6.2. Adjustments Based on Data

Impressions without clicks: the title is the problem

Path: Search Console, Performance, Search results, Pages tab, 28-day date range.

If a page racks up impressions and closes the month with zero, one, or two clicks, it's not lacking content: it's lacking a title and description that make people want to click. Rewrite both following 2.2 Meta descriptions, leave the body untouched and measure again after four weeks.

Sort by impressions and only work on the first five rows: rewrite too many at once and you won't know which one moved the needle. Clicks deliver the verdict, never CTR, due to the tracking discrepancy explained by lesson 6.1.

Second rule: if the page gets clicks but nobody calls, requests directions, or opens the menu, the issue is no longer search visibility. It's a hidden WhatsApp button, an unclickable phone number on mobile, or a menu trapped inside an 8 MB PDF. That gets fixed with conversion rate optimization.

Queries in positions 8 to 15: the quick harvest

Path: same screen, Queries tab, check the Average position box, and sort by impressions.

Any query ranking between positions 8 and 15 is sitting right on the edge of the first page. Filter by that query, switch to the Pages tab to see which URL ranks for it, and add a targeted 150-to-300-word section answering it thoroughly, aligned with the criteria of 2.1 Quality content. Don't build a new page: ranking #11 for “gluten-free pizza Querétaro” is solved by adding a gluten-free menu section to the page that's already ranking.

Rule of thumb for discarding: if a page hasn't moved in six months, stop waiting on it. A May 2025 study by Ahrefs found that of the pages that reach the top 10, 40.82% did so during the first month. Rewrite it with a different angle or merge it with another.

Drops in directions: what to check and in what order

Path: Business Profile, Performance, comparing against the same period of the previous month.

  • Directions drop and calls stay flat: check your business hours and holidays. Incorrectly set hours will wipe you off the map at two in the afternoon, because Google filters by businesses that are open at the exact time of the search.
  • All metrics drop on the same day: head to Edit profile and verify the primary category and name. The primary category is the single highest-weighted factor in Whitespark's 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors report; if someone switched it from Pizza Restaurant to Restaurant, change it back. Also look out for third-party edits and duplicate listings, like in 3.1 Google My Business.
  • The drop coincides with a Google update: compare it against status.search.google.com. In 2026, there was a core update on March 27 and May 21, and a spam update on June 24 and August 18. If your drop starts inside one of those rollout windows, don't change five things at once: wait until the deployment wraps up.
  • The flow of reviews stopped: returns to 3.2 Positive reviews. A profile whose last review is eight months old looks like a questionable business.

The cycle: fifteen minutes a week, one hour a month

Every week

  • Google Business Profile, Performance: calls, directions, and menu clicks compared to the previous week.
  • Unanswered reviews, all replied to before Friday.
  • Hours for the next seven days, with holidays and closures clearly marked.

Every month

  • Search Console, 28 days versus the previous 28, filtered by Pages and by Queries. Do this on day 6 or 7, never on day 1: the profile's Searches metric takes up to five days to appear.
  • Export Performance before it expires and check the four key pizzeria events in GA4: clicks to WhatsApp, phone calls, directions, and the menu.
  • Record in the exact same sheet what you changed this month and on which page. Without that log, come March you won't know what drove February's spike.

That's 52 weekly and 12 monthly reviews a year, each wrapping up with a published update. If your week is spent in the kitchen and managing deliveries, that's exactly what we handle in SEO rankings and what we leave running with marketing automation, with the adjustments already prioritized.
